Creating a website - An overview

To create a website, you only need to do these four things:

  • Sign up for website hosting
  • Choose and register a domain name (i.e.
  • Create your website.
  • Submit your site/pages to search engines {Google & Bing}
    Note: These four things, hosting with Freeservers, domain registration, designing your site or pages and submission to Google & Bing are included in the pricing stated on the Home page.

What is website hosting?

Where you keep your Web page is called "hosting". There are all different types of hosting options, from very expensive commercial Web hosts, to free Web hosts.
  • If you are needing a website where you have a registered domain name {ie} and/or need require of space you may want to hire an expensive commercial host. For standard websites most use companies like Go or These hosting services offer a place to park your site at reasonable rates {between $50.00 to $75.00 a year}.
  • Free hosting provides a free place to 'park' your site but requires that you allow advertising and/or ad banners. Free hosting services limit the design, space and structure of your page or website. Most provide 'free' hosting as lead 'ons' to get you to purchase monthly or yearly hosting plans.
    Note: For a one, two or three page site CT has a special plan starting that includes hosting starting at $75.00 a year for a one page setup.

What is a domain name?

  • A domain name represents a physical point on the Internet, an IP address. It s much like a street address but instead it has a name as well as numbers {IP address}. There are on line servers that can secure a name for you for a monthly or yearly fee. You are paying for the name you will be known by on line.
Here's an example: Think of a street address for a house or business, let's say the White House. The street address, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, is an exact location — like an IP address for a domain. You might not know the exact street address, but when you visit Washington, D.C., you can tell your cabbie that you want to visit the White House and still get there. Your domain name is number is numerical but your domain name is This is how a domain name is used: It's an easy way to reach the exact location of a website without having to remember the numeric address.

Creating a website

That is the process of actually 'building' a site that can be seen on your computer. What you are now reading was built using HTML, the language code of the internet. HTML stands for
HyperText Markup Language. A website can be simple as is this page or can be highly sophisticated that includes Flash graphics and many pages of content {}. It can be a page or hundreds of pages as with CT's website Myths-Dreams-Symbols which has 500+ pages.

Submitting Site/Pages to Google & Bing Search
Yahoo search is a part of Bing and does not require a separate submission

Once you have your site/page set up with a host, domain name and design you will need to submit it to the search engines to let the world know you exist. The process is just like placing a listing in the Yellow Pages of your phone book. You can pay a someone to do this at a cost or do it yourself, if you know the process and have the time.
If you submit your site/page the through the normal process it can take up to 30 days to get you listed. CT uses webmaster tools provided by Google & Bing which will facilitate the process to a few days or less.

A Web search engine is a tool designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. Information may consist of web pages, images, information and other types of files. Some search engines also mine data available in newsbooks, databases, or open directories. Unlike Web directories, which are maintained by human editors, search engines operate algorithmically or are a mixture of algorithmic and human input.

A Word About Search Engine Ranking/Position

A high position or ranking with search engines such as Google {Google holds about 81% of US market} can cost 10s of thousands of dollars per year. Several of the websites owned, designed and maintained by Creative Thinking have high positions with all three major search engines including Google. Depending on category of search these sites possess great positions that provide high volume of traffic. The more traffic the more sales. Gifford Fence in Middle Tennessee has first page rankings in just about every category under fence {Google wood fence Middle Tennessee and see the results}. The same goes for its counter part Gifford Fence Orlando in the Orlando market. These are regional companies who benefit tremendously from these high positions.

Our oldest site Myths-Dreams-Symbols holds high world wide rankings under several categories. Under the categories of dream psychology and dream forums {MDS is a site dedicated to Jungian dream psychology} the rankings are second page. Many of the 500+ pages at MDS hold first page rankings and some even first place rankings. Under the category of 'dream psyche' the MDS site holds a second place ranking. Under dreams and myth the MDS page not only has a first place position but has two other separate pages on the first page in the rankings. Under the category of metaphysics in Melbourne Fl. the CT websites Melbourne Dreams & Metaphysics {}, the Power of Dreams {}as well as Myths-Dreams-Symbols have first page positions. These are powerful positions to possess and can be beneficial to other websites that are linked at these sites.

One last word about rankings and cost. Because CT designs and promotes its own websites it costs nothing other than the cost of hosting fees, domain names and the time needed to design the sites for its websites to be in such high rankings. Much like a full page Yellow Page ad the cost to be on the first page {depending on category and whether it is a regional or world wide position} the cost per year can range anywhere between $15,000 to $40,000 a year. Creative Thinking is proud of its high rankings on so many of its websites.

Ct has a few positions available on several of its websites for linking to other websites. Linking from Myths-Dreams-Symbols can be a valuable tool for a regional company. Contact CT for more information if you are interested in securing one of these positions. CT has only recently {
October 2012} entered the web design business in Florida and we are working hard to promote the Creative Thinking website to a high ranking in the Melbourne/Space Coast market. Stay tuned.
